Click for larger imageThe Vietnam War Era Recognition is authorized to all military personnel who served on Active, Guard or Reserve duty between 17 September 1950 and 30 April 1975, in recognition of support combatting the spread of communism during that portion of the Cold War Era that involved military operations in Vietnam.
Emblem
The Indochina Theater design incorporates elements of the United States Vietnam War Service Medal, The United States Armed Forces Medal, The United States National Defense Service Medal, and The American Campaign Medal.
The East-West facing Eagle represents the dual-service contribution of military service in Vietnam, The United States or Europe confronting the global spread of Communism. Both Eagles riding atop and protecting the other's back respresents mutual support for safeguarding of the other's forces.
Ribbon: Indochina Theater
The closed top of the Indochina Theater ribbon represents the armed containment of Communism on the battlefields of the Vietnam Theater of Operations.
Ribbon: American-European-Pacific Theater
The open top of the American-European Theater ribbon represents the mobile readiness of American and European Theater forces to contain any incident of armed Communist aggression.
