Pushed back above the Parallel in a bold and punishing drive by Allied forces, Chinese divisions persisted in their failed efforts to recover their loss of Seoul, the capitol of South Korea. Overlooking the only road network leading from North Korea to Seoul stood a strategically important five-hill complex inside a region designated as The Iron Triangle. These five hills, numbers 292, 460, 477, 487 and 717, were occupied by Allied Forces, principally led by elements of the 65th Infantry Regiment which fought fiercely and valiantly to resist and prevent almost endless attempts by larger enemy forces to command the high ground that would enable the recapture of Seoul, at that point in the war more of a morale objective than territorial. Designated as Operations Cleanup I, Cleanup II and Commando, the 65th IR operating as Task Force Cutthroat confirmed that Americans will never be outgunned and never lose ground more than once. A year later the Chinese would again attempt to command the Iron Triangle, and again have their hopes dashed. Authorized for Active Duty and Ready Reserve Service service during the Operation Period.
